Well this may be my last update for 2006, we have had a lot of things going on the last couple of months. We hit over 27,000+ posts in our forums and we had a grand opening of our new sister site: RenalRomance.com. It is a site devoted to dating advice for people who live with kidney disease. RenalRomance was inspired by this thread. And there you will read the reasons why I started this NEW site. Renal Romance also has its very own forums. Our very own "goofynina" is the Admin over there and "Sluff" is the site's very first moderator. So I hope you wish them the best. RenalRomance is really taking off and is becoming popular. Our "Arcade" located at Dialysischat.com has hosted over 10,000+ "games" that means the site is very active. I was finally able to "Integrate" chat into IHD, the chat over at dialysischat is still online however most of our members chat over on IHD chat. As it is simple and easy to use. So check out the chat room, you can read about it HERE. The chat on IHD is getting rather popular. And I would like to mention that our "store" located at MyKidneyGear.com has now over 39 designs to choose from. And last but certainly not least, I would like to announce that IHD has a NEW admin and that would be "goofynina" she has proven herself by being loyal and spending many hours online everyday doing her duties as a mod. She is now an official ADMIN for ihatedialysis.com, so please take a moment to welcome her, if you have not yet done so. You can do that HERE. WOW, a lot has been happening, and as I said this most likely will be the last update I do for 2006, you will still be able to read all the news events, they will be located in the ARCHIVE located HERE. I would like to take this time to personally thank all of our members for making IHD so popular and for making it the most active and BEST dialysis message board on the Internet. We have been even featured on CNN, read about it HERE and a couple of magazine articles. You can even listen to my Internet Radio Interview over at RSNHope.org. We hit our 20,000+ POST today and that is an amazing feat. We are the BIGGEST and most Active Dialysis Message Board on the Internet. It's amazing that the site is just 14 months old and we are already at our 20,000th post. Also we had our GRAND RE-OPENING of the IHD.COM store which is now BIGGER and BETTER than our previous online store, it is located at www.MyKidneyGear.com Check it out. We have many designs that will appeal to everyone. We even do FREE custom work, just drop me an email or send me a PM in the Forums. Plus I added 3 more "Stat" boxes on the forum home page, they are: "Recent Posts" (I can adjust the number of new posts shown) "Users Active in the last 24 hours" and "Upcoming Birthdays" So take a look and let me know what you think.
Lots of updates, first I changed the "Intro" on the main home page, you can read it by clicking here. Next I removed the "Arcade" button that was located on the forums. I removed the arcade button because now the arcade is on a totally different site which is located here. Next I merged 2 sections in the forum, previously we had a section that was titled: "Introduction" and another was titled: "Site Rules and Other Important Threads" so I merged the two and called it: "Introduction - PLEASE READ THIS SECTION FIRST." Finally I added several new "Smileys" for the members to enjoy and express themselves in their posts on the forum. You can view the new "Smileys" here.
I decided to create a new member group that will offer members special benefits, for just $5.00 a month ($60 a year) they will become a Premium Member and have access to features only available to Premium Members. Read more about it HERE. Please come and see the reasons why I created this new member group and get a better understanding of the details. In a nutshell I created the "Premium Member" group to help support the site financially and since this site is growing very fast I need to upgrade our hosting package. 07/31/06 - 10,000+ POSTS, NEW SECTION AND WE ARE NOW FAMOUS So here we are a few days away from our 1 year anninversary and we have over 10,000+ posts which is amazing, our message board is growing faster than any other dialysis related message board. We also added another section: "Spouses and Caregivers" this section was requested by several members AND last but not least, we will be featured in the premier nephrology magazine, "Nephrology News & Issues" Read more about it here. This 3 page article is great exposure for our website, in fact 4 our members had the chance to be interviewed, please check it out and let us know what you think. I attached the .PDF file of the article so you can read it. We a very close to our 1 year anniversary, stay tuned for the surprise which is coming August 6th 2006.
I promoted "goofynina" from a member to a Moderator, she has proven herself as a valuable and loyal member of the site. You can read about it here. Also I added a banner link to our new sister site ilovenxstage.com go there and check it out or read about it here. This is NOT the surprise I have been talking about, that is coming on our sites 1 year anniversary. So go to the site and wish "goofynina" well, in her new title and show her a big welcome. She is an amazing person and I am glad she accepted the position. And be sure to check out our new sister site.
I added a new section, due to members request. It is called Dialysis: Diet & Recipes. The section is for members to discuss their diet, if they wish to rant that is ok to. Plus this is the section where you can post your recipes that you have created or have discovered. Please keep all discussion about renal recipes. Or keep all discussion about renal diets. If the section does not get used regularly, I will delete it. You can visit the new section here.
I decided to clean up a little, I got tired of seeing several stickied threads in the General Discussion section, (the rules, skype, gender/location, contact list, donate, etc, etc.) So I moved them to a child section of General Discussion. You will notic,e by creating a new section, it cleaned up alot of space and you will not have to see those threads everytime you come to the General Discussion section. Please continue to look in that section when ever you see a "white" kidney as that means there are new posts in that section. I hope you like the change, I think it makes a difference. Be sure to make a thread in the comments section if you have other ideas you would like to see happen on site.
I opened the chat to allow self-registration, and allow "guests" I do ask that if you register an account, you must use your same name that you use on the forums. This is necessary to stop people from spamming or pretending to be someone else. I keep logs of all IP addresses and if I see someone pretending to be someone else that person will be banned. Never give out any personal information in the chat room. I or any of my mods will never ask you for your password. I had registration closed to stop spammers, but to help the chat grow I've opened it up to self-registration and guest. So head over to the chat and register an account today and start chatting. Help the chat room grow by logging in and if you see no one is there just minimize the window and it will "beep" when someone comes in.
Well after seeing a few of our members who are not patients but have become very active in our site and post on a regular basis, I decided to have a section for them. So if you work in the dialysis field, if your a tech, nurse, admin, doctor, physicians assistant, secretary, supplier, delivery person, what ever the case may be, if it's related to kidney failure, this is your section. Of course you are free to post in ALL of the other sections and the patients are to allowed to post here. But maybe you want to rant or vent about a work environment, a co-worker, dialysis in general, a problem you see going on, or maybe you are sick of dialysis patients and want to rant about a certain patient who gets on your nerves at your center. I hope having this section does not offend dialysis patients, I hope they understand that you don't have to actually be a patient to HATE dialysis, spouses, brothers, sisters, parents, children, family members, and yes even employees in the field can hate dialysis. Kidney disease affects many peoples live not just the patients, I know my son and wife hate dialysis, because they see what kidney failure has done to me. Remember this section is open to ALL members, I just wanted to give a little something for the workers. especially the workers who take the time join and to post here regularly. This will give us patients a chance to see the other side of the coin. So let's hear some rants! Check out the link to the new section Click Here.
I added a new section which lists the sites donators, you can access it by visiting the donate section click where it says " CLICK HERE TO SEE THE MEMBERS WHO HAVE DONATED!" I added this is basically a thank you to the members who have choosen to support this site. You can read more about it by going there directly. I also mentioned it in this Thread.
Well it's hard to believe but in just 10 months we have hit the 5,000 post mark, this a mile stone in any message board. But It is remarkable for a dialysis site to grow so fast. This just proves that a site like this WAS needed, to give patients a voice and allow people to come and feel free to rant and vent about the frustrations of living on dialysis. I would like to thank the members personally from the bottom of my heart. You are all making this site a community. And to my moderators thank you, for all of your work in help running the site. I hope you all are enjoying the new home page and all of its features. Well now it's on to 10,000 posts
Welcome members and visitors to the all new ihatedialysis.com site. Don't worry, the forums are still around, but our site is growing so fast we felt it was time to expand. The site now includes a "Home page" to offer our members several new features such as: up-to-the-minute dialysis news, a chat room, the VERY first game made just for dialysis patients, a links section, a donate page with incentives, a memorial page and a dialysis cartoons section with cartoons created by an actual dialysis patient. Be sure to look around and see what's new. Also, be sure to update your bookmarks. So finally welcome to the new site and I hope you enjoy all of it's new features. |
